Haere Mai Taiko

Haere Mai Taiko is one of Auckland's most authentic and enthusiastic performers of Japanese Taiko drumming.

Haere mai means "welcome" in Maori, Mai means to dance in Japanese. This is an expression of the two cultures mixing and creating a new enriched culture. We are seriously passionate about Taiko, which enables us to share traditional and modern Japanese culture with a bit of NZ flavour. We participate in various events, and all our members aim to be good performers.

Introductory Workshop for N'goni with Jeremy Cloake.

This course will be taught at a holiday home at Piha beach. Participants will initially be taught
how to tune n'goni, several tuning scales, dis-assembly and re-assembly of n'goni and how to replace the strings.

The course will then continue on with playing techniques, several rhythms and improvisations.
The course fee includes all tuition and the overnight stay on Saturday. Participants will be
responsible for preparing their own food and we will share a meal on the Saturday night. This
course is suited for beginner and intermediate students. Several n'goni will be available for
sale at this course.
