Image - tiny drum "Drumming together is exciting because of the immediacy, sound level and insistence. You know you are part of something bigger and you are not the only one holding it together, yet your contribution is important. You are part of a big sound-making team while at the same time you are being challenged creatively."

"Drumming has such universal appeal, it inspired me to make this process readily available to the rest of the community. This resulted in an application in January 2000 to the Auckland Regional Services Trust for funding to set up a Rhythm Centre where instruments could be made and repaired, where people could come and play and find out where rhythm was happening in Auckland..." more about Fraser Bruce

  RHYTHM CENTRE NEWS

Updated 20thJune 2014

Haere Mai Taiko

Haere Mai Taiko is one of Auckland's most authentic and enthusiastic performers of Japanese Taiko drumming.

Haere mai means "welcome" in Maori, Mai means to dance in Japanese. This is an expression of the two cultures mixing and creating a new enriched culture. We are seriously passionate about Taiko, which enables us to share traditional and modern Japanese culture with a bit of NZ flavour. We participate in various events, and all our members aim to be good performers.

Practice every Sat 8:00am to 2:00pm
